What colour should your exhibition stand be?

When you are exhibiting at a tradeshow you want to make sure that your exhibition stand is as noticeable as possible. There are many techniques that experienced exhibitors use in order to ensure that their stand is the one that people spend time at and the one that really stands out.

One of the first areas that you will want to consider in your exhibition design is the colour of your stand and the behaviour that this will prompt from potential customers. All colours have a psychology attached to them and prompt a certain natural reaction that is completely instinctual and cannot be changed or avoided. Working with this natural reaction can help to make sure that your stand receives the attention that your business deserves. Blue is a very calming colour that is very soothing and attractive to the human eye, this makes it the perfect colour to attract people to your stand. Blue has been proven to lower the heart rate and decrease stress, this makes sure that when people arrive at your stand they are calm and ready to receive the information that you are giving out. There are thousands of shades of blue available and many even consider it good practice to incorporate a few different shades in order to appeal to as many people as possible.

Red in all of its many shades is a very physical and exciting colour that increases motor skills and decreases inhibition levels. There is a good reason that many sales staff in all sorts of establishments wear red clothing, it is a very friendly and open colour that actively encourages people to interact with them. Using red highlights on the more interactive parts of your exhibition stand can help to make sure that people spend extended amounts of time.

Purple is widely accepted as being an intellectual colour that prompts further contemplation and thought. An exhibition stand can be many things, it can be formal, intimate a fun space or an open one. It all depends on what you want and need your stand to be. In order to get the stand that meets your needs it’s important to be clear on your brief, and here at Rap we have outlined some steps that will help you get the best design and stand that you want.

If you’re looking to replace an old and tired exhibition stand with a new one, then take a look at your old stand and have a think about what it is that you do like, what aspects worked well for you and look for ways in which you can improve these. You don’t want to be recreating the same problems in your new stand. Consider the colours in which you are using, and do some research prior to designing your new stand. Colours are extremely powerful! Colours have different meanings and evoke different emotions, so pick carefully.

Think about things that you want your new stand to include as well as what you don’t want. Many people find it surprisingly difficult to convey visual concepts through written language. What do you do on a day to day basis here at Rap Industries?

“I handle the day to day running of the accounts including invoicing, ledgering, bank reconciliation as well as my new role as human resources. This includes keeping on top of the correct procedures, policies that we need to comply with and creating the correct packs for interviews, new starters etc.”

What is the most enjoyable part about working at Rap Industries?

“The best and most satisfying part of my job is when the quarterly VAT return and Annual Year End is complete as it is a massive weight off my shoulders… temporarily. I also like that Human Resources is now taking off at Rap Industries, it is very satisfying knowing that we now have a department in place to make sure everything is running smoothly and efficiently.”

What has been the most exciting/satisfying thing to happen during your time here?

“I think the most exciting thing that has happened is the new turnover of staff we now have. Now we have a variety of people in the company which is very different to the 7/8 people we had in the office when I first started four and a half years ago. The most interesting thing for me is the way the company has grown, we now have mezzanine floors in the factory and a new extension which gave the office a much needed uplift.”

How do you like to celebrate Christmas every year?

“I like to celebrate Christmas with a few drinks over the festive period with family and friends, enjoy the time off work ready for another year ahead and the busy footballing schedule over the holidays which always includes watching Peterborough United home and away.”

What is the best part about Christmas for you?

“The best part of Christmas for me used to be seeing everyone happy on Christmas day, the feeling that when you wake up it just doesn’t feel like a normal day. This year I know that the best part for me will be the fact it’ll be my little girl, Ava-Mae’s first Christmas, so seeing her trying to open her presents, be overwhelmed by everything around her and to see her smiling will make my day.”

What was your favourite Christmas present as a kid?

“My favourite Christmas present when I was growing up was anything football related as well as a Playstation. When I was very little my favourite was a white teddy bear that was called ‘Snowy’. He was everywhere, never left my side and there was even a video of me waiting by the washing machine because he needed a clean, with my head spinning around, not taking my eyes off of snowy. I still have him now so hopefully Ava-Mae will enjoy him as much as I did.”

Rap’s Workshop- Interview with Engineering

Today we feature Pete Marcotto who is a member of our engineering team. Pete is responsible for the early stages of crafting orders such as welding frames as well as pressing panel and screen cores.

What do you do on a day to day basis here at Rap Industries?

“I work in the engineering department which means I mainly work in welding and fabrication of display boards and partition screens. Most of what I do is to cut and create the metal frames to fit the display boards. I also do fabrication which is applying the customers chosen material to the boards.”

What is the best part of your job?

“The part I enjoy most about working here is being left to my own devices and getting on with the work I have to do. I’m quite happy knowing what work I have for the day and getting on with it.”

What has been the most exciting thingto happen during your time here?

“The most interesting part about working here is after I produce parts in the very early stages, I can see them being added to the finished product later on. I find it really satisfying and it is a good feeling to get the job done properly.”

How do you like to celebrate Christmas?

“I like to have a quiet Christmas, getting some down time and spending time with my partner. I’m looking forward to just relaxing this Christmas in England. Usually we travel to America spend Christmas with her extended family in Colorado Springs on a house on the lake but with over 30 people there it can get quite hectic.”

What was your favourite Christmas present as a child?

“Best present I got when I was a kid was my first bike, a Raleigh Tomahawk when I was 5 years old. It was the big craze then with its chopper design which stood out against others. I loved the retro style and relaxed feel of the bike in particular.”

What do you do on a day to day basis here at Rap Industries?

“I manage the stockroom at Rap Industries which means monitoring any stock coming in or going out. I also control the stock checks to make sure everything is running as smoothly as possible and we always have enough stock to manufacture the orders that come in.”

What has been the most satisfying part about working at Rap Industries?

“The best part of the job is being in control of my own work. I am not reliant on others to get the job done, so I can get on with my job at my own pace and finish it at a good level. I really like that I can be completely self-sufficient.”

What has been the most interesting thing to happen during your time here?

“The most exciting part about working here are the little bonuses towards the end of the year – it gives me something to work towards and gives me motivation, especially during the Christmas period when you are looking forward to taking a break.”

How do you like to celebrate Christmas?

“I like to spend my Christmas with my family as well as enjoying a little drink. I enjoy the festivities as well as the time off to recharge my batteries before the new year.”

What is the best part of Christmas for you?

“My favourite part during Christmas is being able to spend more time with my two-year-old son and enjoying our first Christmas’ together. I’m looking forward to him opening up his presents in particular.”

What was your favourite Christmas present as a child?

“The best present I ever received when I was a kid was a Playstation 2 like a lot of kids I think. It was just one of those toys you had to have, I remember spending hours and hours on it.”

Today we feature Michael Rimes, the leader of our product development team. Michael develops all of our new products from concepts to the final product.

What do you do on a day to day basis here at Rap Industries?

I train all of our new staff in our new products. I also help to develop new products that we have designed and pass this all on to our staff. I assist new team leaders in training as previously I used to work here as a supervisor. Finally, when we are short staffed I lend a hand as I’ve worked here for 33 years, so I’m the ideal person to pass on the training!”

What is the best part about working here at Rap Industries?

“Personally, the most satisfying thing is after spending time developing the product, then seeing it go through the process of being put into production and ultimately being sent to the customer. It is extra special when we receivegood feedback on a product that I have seen being developed over a long time.”

What has been the most interesting thing to happen while you have worked at Rap Industries?

The most exciting part of the job has been seeing my sons grow up and now they work here with me. They weren’t even born when I started working here, so it’s been great watching them grow up and develop and then start working with me.”

How do you like to celebrate Christmas?

I like having a nice and quiet Christmas at home with the family, especially now with my young grandchildren. Ideally in the future I would like to spend Christmas in a warm log cabin in Finland, although I might be waiting a few years!”

What is the best part of Christmas for you?

“The best part of Christmas for me is the gift giving, especially gifts that have a special meaning. Also both me and my son share birthday’s on a similar date so it’s a double celebration. I love Christmas for the proper reasons – spending time with family and seeing them happy as well as seeing my grandkids grow up as well.”

What was your favourite Christmas present while you were growing up?

“It has to be my first bike, we didn’t get as many presents back then so it was extra special.”

Today we feature Simon Wiles, who is a team leader in our factory. Simon leads our factory staff to ensure that production is running as planned so every order can be produced and dispatched on time.

What do you do on a day to day basis here at Rap Industries?

“I delegate work to others in the factory, making sure that everything is running smoothly. I also do quality control on every product we are going to dispatch to make sure they are of the highest quality so our customers will be satisfied. I’m always on hand to answer any questions from the factory floor and I fill in when we are short staffed.”

What is the most satisfying part of working at Rap Industries?

“The best part of working at Rap Industries is being able to work with people. It is really satisfying to lead a team and especially when others look up to you as a leader.”

What has been the most interesting that has happened while you have been here?

“Definitely the most exciting part of working here was when I was promoted six months ago to team leader. It felt very rewarding after working my way up from being part of the general work staff which equipped me well to do the job.”

How do you like to celebrate Christmas?

“I like to spend Christmas by spending timewith family and friends when I can appreciate some time away from the factory and take a break.”

What is the best part about Christmas for you?

“The best part of Christmas is being able to get a little bit jolly and enjoy a drink during the break. I enjoy being able to chill out and enjoy some downtime.”

What was your favourite Christmas present when you were a kid?

“My favourite present from when I was a kid was getting a Playstation 2. All of my friends had one and it was my first proper games console so I can remember spending loads of time sat playing it.”
